Tours were available at the historic W.H. Stark House before the meeting. The evening at The Old Orange Café included a presentation by area historian Jack Smith about the life of H. J. Lutcher Stark and his impact on Southeast Texas as well as the state of Texas. You can click this link to learn more about the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation.

Accountants Confidential Assistance Network
This new name for the program operated under the TSCPA Peer Assistance Foundation more fully describes its scope and addresses the concern: “Is this call confidential?”
There also is a new toll-free hotline number: 866-766-ACAN.
The Accountants Confidential Assistance Network (ACAN) offers support for impaired individuals and makes referrals to structured treatment programs.
Although alcoholism and drug dependence are the most common problems, volunteers in the Network also guide individuals who need help with depression, anxiety and emotional disorders that contribute to impairment. You can learn more about the program through the feature story in the March/April issue of Today’s CPA magazine.
To receive the ACAN quarterly email newsletter for yourself or someone you care about, please send your request to Program Director Ken Laney at klaney@tscpa.net.

For details about the variety of benefits you get, go to the Benefits of Membership section of the TSCPA Web site.
A featured members-only benefit is access to the Center for Corporate Financial Leadership. Don’t let the title fool you: it can be useful to members in all areas of practice, not just those in industry.
